Questions about starting therapy?
Everything you need to know about our approach, logistics, fees, and care process.
HOW DOES VIRTUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY WORK?
Therapy sessions are provided virtually through a secure video platform. You can attend sessions from your computer, tablet or phone from a private space where you feel comfortable speaking. Virtual psychotherapy is currently available to adults located in Ontario.
ARE PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES COVERED BY OHIP OR INSURANCE?
Psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist is not covered by OHIP. Many extended health benefit plans provide coverage for psychotherapy services provided by Registered Psychotherapists. Coverage varies depending on your individual plan. You are encouraged to confirm your coverage directly with your insurance provider before beginning therapy. Receipts are provided for reimbursement.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FREE 15-MINUTE CONSULTATION?
The free 15-minute consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, ask questions and learn more about the therapeutic approach. It also gives us an opportunity to determine whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no obligation to book a therapy session after the consultation.
HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?
Individual psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes and cost $150 per session. A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.
HOW MANY THERAPY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
There isn't one set number of sessions that works for everyone. The length of therapy depends on what brings you to therapy, your goals, your circumstances and how the work develops over time. Some people come for focused, shorter-term support, while others choose to continue therapy for a longer period. We will regularly check in about how therapy is going and whether it continues to meet your needs.
DO I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO WORK ON BEFORE STARTING THERAPY?
No. Some people begin therapy with a specific concern or goal. Others simply know that something in their life doesn't feel right or that the way they've been coping is no longer working. Part of therapy can be understanding what is happening and identifying what you would like to change.
WHAT CAN I COME TO THERAPY FOR?
You don't need to fit into a specific category to reach out. Therapy may support concerns related to anxiety and overthinking, grief and loss, major life changes, relationships, boundaries, people-pleasing, burnout, identity and cultural experiences. If you're unsure whether your concern is something we can support, you can ask during the free consultation.
